So it’s perhaps fitting that while honeymooning in the beautiful Sicilian countryside, Frederick Neill and his new wife fell in love all over again, this time with the vibrant, zesty flavour of Sicilian blood oranges.
Using his finely-honed distilling skills, Johnny Neill strove to create a gin recipe that would evoke the memories of his grandfather’s Sicilian honeymoon. He developed Whitley Neill Blood Orange Gin with mixologists and bartenders in mind, and it is a great base for classics such as Negronis, Gimlets and Sours.

Alongside Whitley Neill Quince Gin, Whitley Neill Lemongrass & Ginger Gin was inspired by Frederick Neill’s voyages. Whilst in Asia he discovered fragrant lemongrass, a popular ingredient lending a citrus note to local delicacies.
His grandfather’s discovery inspired Johnny to blend aromatic lemongrass with warming ginger as well as a variety of exotic herbs and spices, giving Whitley Neill Lemongrass & Ginger Gin its distinctive fragrant, citrusy taste.
Inspired by his family’s sense of adventure, Johnny strove to create his own signature blend of gin: a tribute to his English distilling heritage, and a homage to the enigmatic beauty of his wife’s South African homeland.
The result is Whitley Neill Original Handcrafted Dry Gin; a balanced, distinctive gin that blends classic gin botanicals with Cape Gooseberry and Baobab, inspired by South Africa to create a liquid with a flavour as unique as its heritage.
The flavour profile has rich notes of juniper and citrus, potpourri and exotic spices.

Whilst most of Johnny Neill’s inspiration for his award winning gins comes from his ancestors’ intrepid exploits abroad, this Rhubarb & Ginger Gin harks from fond memories made slightly closer to home. Post-war the Whitley Family was settled in rural England near Daresbury and, as a keen gardener, Johnny’s great grandfather JJ Whitley was called upon to judge the local produce and flower shows. He of course kept his own garden well stocked with exciting flavours, including a flourishing rhubarb patch, which served as Johnny’s inspiration for this gin.
